Her first public appearance in a child's choir as well as at the venue for karaoke during a family holiday. The singer performed at places like restaurants, churches, family gatherings, and everywhere within 30 miles of her home. Alaina was 8 years old when she was crowned the winner of the Southern Stars Pageant's talent competition. The following year Alaina won the talent competition for kids at Chattanooga's Riverbend Festival. In the following years, she appeared each year on the stage until 12, when the contest that enabled her to appear on the Festival's main stage was won. As a ten-year-old she travelled from Florida to Orlando in order to compete in The American Model and Talent Competition. She was the winner of the competition over 1,500 competitors. Alaina was a member of the Georgia Country Gospel Music Association Children's Choir. Aged 12, Alaina made her first of many trips to Nashville. She performed at Tootsie's and at other local bars in Broadway. Alaina took home the WinniSTAR contest to showcase young talent in 2009 at Lake Winnepesaukah. She also created songs, such as Leaving and set me free. Her cousin Holly Witherow was diagnosed with brain cancer, which led her to sing. Prior to Idol, Alaina worked at CiC's Pizza. She graduated from Lakeview Fort Oglethorpe School, Fort Oglethorpe Georgia.
